The Montane Lakeland 100 and 50 is the UK’s premier Ultra Trail Race. With the 2022 theme for the Montane Lakeland 50 and 100 being “Make Legends Not War”, the organisers were keen for the logo design to incorporate the classic Peace symbol of the 1960s. Incorporating water, woodland and sunshine* into the symbol made it more relevant to this event. The linocut styling used represents the rugged nature of this gruelling course.
The announcement of the theme for the Montane Lakeland event is something greatly anticipated by all participants. It not only runs through the medal and T-shirt designs but is also the theme for the entire weekend. Coniston, where the race ends, turned into “Conistock” with festival vibes and vibrant celebration for those who manage to finish the race (the dropout rate is 50%…. it’s insane).
Along with the announcement of the theme, comes the guesses of what colour the T-Shirt will be! Getting a Lakeland finisher medal and T-Shirt is one of the greatest achievements in life. Get the colour wrong, and there are going to be some disappointed people! For the 2022 event, purple and yellow were chosen as a cheerful combination that would have a lot of impact on-site. Purple souvenir T-Shirts also went down well with the participants.
*Not always guaranteed in the Lakes, but one can hope.
